Important Volume Licensing Update from Microsoft

We wanted to give you advance notification of some important changes to Microsoft software and cloud pricing coming in January 2017.

Microsoft has announced that from January 1, 2017, they will be increasing British pound pricing to harmonise prices for enterprise software and cloud services within the EU/EFTA region. Microsoft periodically assess the impact of local pricing of their products and services to ensure there is reasonable alignment across the region and this change is an outcome of this assessment.  These changes are similar to the recent harmonisation adjustments to pricing in Norwegian krone and Swiss franc that were made in April 2016.

Starting January, British pound prices for on-premises enterprise software will increase by 13% to realign close to euro levels.  Most enterprise cloud prices in British pounds will increase by 22% to realign close to euro levels.  Even after this adjustment, customers across the region buying in British pound will still find Microsoft cloud offerings highly competitive. For indirect sales where Microsoft products are sold through resellers, final prices and currency of sale will continue to be determined by resellers. In the EU/EFTA region, partners will continue to have access to prevailing prices in euro, Norwegian krone, Swiss franc, Swedish krona, and Danish krone, along with revised prices in British pounds.

For business customers, these changes will not affect existing orders under annuity volume licensing agreements for products that are subject to price protection. For example, customers with Enterprise Agreements have price protection on previously ordered enterprise software and cloud services, and will not experience a price change during the term of their agreement. Similarly, business customers with cloud commitment subscriptions such as Office 365 also receive price protection during their subscription term, which is normally twelve months from the start of paid subscription.

Prices for new product additions under existing volume licensing agreements and purchases under new contracts will be as defined by the price list at the time of order.  This pricing change will not apply to consumer software or consumer cloud services.

Caretower launches new Ransomware Risk Reduction Service

Caretower are delighted to announce that we will be offering our customers another layer of defence against ransomware through our new Ransomware Risk Reduction service. This new service offering will provide an enhancement of up to 80% protection against known ransomware variants.

Ransomware attacks are on the increase, and in particular encryption of data with a demand for some form of payment for decryption. Our Ransomware Risk Reduction service provides another layer of defence against a highly professionalised, for-profit malware industry, which is constantly innovating and trying to either circumvent known security measures, or exploit unsecure or outdated systems.

By identifying similar patterns of behaviour within different variants, proactive protection rules for endpoint products can be configured on the following products: VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) and Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS). These rules aim at effectively preventing the installation and / or the payload of historical, current, and evolving new variants of all these threats.

Our Ransomware Risk Reduction service is an enhanced service provided in addition to our Managed ePO Service, and can be implemented on the following products:

  • Intel Security VirusScan Enterprise (VSE)
  • Intel Security Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS)

Bloxx product set replacement

As you may already know, on 2 November 2015, Akamai Technologies Inc. announced that it acquired Bloxx, the provider of Secure Web Gateway solutions. The acquisition will see the Bloxx product set discontinued (“end-of-lifed”), as product sales are halted in the UK after 31st January 2016. We understand that this sudden announcement has created a lot of uncertainty and worry amongst Bloxx customers.

Whilst Bloxx will be honouring existing contracts, this does mean that if you are a current Bloxx customer you will have to consider alternative solutions when your current contract expires. We can help you make this transition seamlessly, avoiding a potentially time consuming replacement project.

Our technical team, who have a strong knowledge of Bloxx from our work with the solution for a number of years, are well placed to provide advice on an alternative that is best suited for your organisation.

  • Sophos Secure Web Gateway
  • CensorNet's web and email security solutions
  • Barracuda web filter solutions
  • Websense Web Filter and Security
